my mumsy is the person who taught me how to knit. she’s supported me in every endeavour, and probably does a better job of upselling my patterns than i do! among the reeds was her birthday gift, a design made especially for her (instead of her just snagging one or three of my most recent samples), using yarn she picked out. she’s a maritimer through and through, and is how i claim my maritimer status despite not living there for several years now. so it makes perfect sense that she would choose a nova scotian-dyed yarn in shades of the ocean.

needles: US 5 (3.75mm) 32” (80cm) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: mc: 546 yards (499 metres), 100g of fingering weight yarn
cc: 546 yards (499 metres), 100g of fingering weight yarn
sample shown in handmaiden fine yarns’ mini maiden (546 yards 499 metres, 100g, 50% silk/50% wool) x 2 skeins, shown in 1 skein each of salt spray (mc) and tourmaline (cc)

notions: tapestry needle

gauge: 23 stitches x 38 rows = 4” (10cm), over chevron, blocked
20 stitches x 26 rows = 4” (10cm), over garter stitch, blocked
