the forage collection digs deeper into canada’s fibresheds by highlighting multiple players within each region through a combination of interviews and accompanying patterns. the second collection focuses on alberta’s fibreshed. my interview with alberta yarn project can be watched here.

as you make your way through the valleys and canyons scattered throughout alberta, it’s impossible to not feel the weight of time pressing down on the landscape. layers of sediment indicate constant growth and new eras, while simultaneously reminding us of the thousands of years pressed into a range before us, with millions more years underneath that.

this shawl features black welsh mountain wool, one of the many breed specific yarns sourced by alberta yarn project within their home province, and despite its darkness, it shows the various simple textures at play thanks to some sturdy stitch definition. opt for another breed if you want a lighter shawl.

needles: US 5 (3.75mm) 32” (80cm) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

sample shown uses alberta yarn project’s heritage bwm 2018 (100% black welsh mountain, 430 yards 395 metres, 112g) x 2 skeins
