kochany is polish for “dear,” “beloved,” and “merry.” this stole is the perfect embodiment of those words, constructed with comforting and familiar moss stitch and old shale lace. easy to memorize and worked sideways from one short end to the other, this pattern will become a beloved heirloom piece in your wardrobe. the right choice of good wool and some lavender or cedar sachets stored with it will keep it safe during those rare moments it's not in use.

needles: US 7 (4.5mm) 32” (80cm) circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: 750 yards (687 metres), 300g of dk weight yarn*

sample shown uses harrisville designs’ nightshades (80% american cormo/20% american wool, 250 yards [229 metres], 100g) x 3 skeins in vcr

*note: due to the lofty nature of the suggested yarn, it’s a good idea to grab an extra skein just to be on the safe side so you don’t have to play yarn chicken. use any leftovers for a pair of fingerless mitts or a cute hat!
