asterope, also known as sterope, was the sister whose name translated to “lightning.” in the constellation cluster, she is actually a double star, and her mythological roots are equally convoluted - depending on which myths you believe, she is either the wife or the mother of king oenomaus of pisa.

these socks don’t need to be as convoluted as their namesake, but you can play with doubles by enjoying their colourblock toes and cuffs. great for stashbusting or for taking advantage of those sweet coordinating sock yarn kits, choose a long-wool breed blend like the cheviot and bfl used for these ones to get a cozy and durable cushion for your feet.

needles: US 1 (2.25mm) dpns OR circular needles appropriate for preferred method, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: 350 yards (320 metres), 80g of fingering weight yarn
sample shown in woolly mammoth fibre co.’s natural sock (50% cheviot/50% bfl, 437 yards 400 metres, 100g) x 1 skein and 1 mini skein in cozy kit #5
