the ocean is a place of vast abundance, and also of death. it occasionally washes these reminders of the cycle of life onto the rocks, and any leftovers get picked clean by the seabirds. fishbones uses slipped stitches to replicate the skinny bones running up fish spines. the giant pompom on top is optional, but it does make everything a lot more fun, as far as i’m concerned.

needles: US 7 (4.5mm) 16” (40cm) circular needles PLUS dpns OR circular needles long enough for magic loop, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: 200 yards (185 metres), 115g of worsted weight yarn
sample shown in julie asselin’s hektos (75% merino/15% cashmere/10% silk, 200 yards 185 metres, 115g) x 1 skein

notions: stitch marker, pompom maker

gauge: 18 stitches x 36 rounds = 4” (10cm), over main body pattern, worked in the round, blocked and stretched
